PortaSplit Stock Tracker & Buying Guide
Everything you need to decide whether the PortaSplit is the right air conditioner for your home, track where it's in stock across Europe, and buy it at a fair price.
What the PortaSplit is
The PortaSplit is a split air conditioner: instead of a single box, it comes as two parts joined by a refrigerant hose. An indoor unit sits in your room on wheels, and a separate outdoor unit handles the heat exchange. For heating and cooling, that outdoor unit has to be placed outside — most often on the window bracket included in the box, or resting on a sill for a terrace setup. On models with the heat function it works in both directions, cooling in summer and warming the room in cooler months. For the full numbers, see the specifications page.

Who it is suitable for
Because there is nothing to drill and no permanent fixing, the PortaSplit suits people who can't or don't want to install a fixed wall unit:
- Renters who need the unit to come with them and leave no permanent marks
- Anyone with an inward-opening window the bracket fits, or a sill or terrace for the outdoor unit
- Households that want both cooling and heating from one appliance (on heat-capable models)
- People who want to move cooling between rooms — the indoor unit is on wheels
Key benefits
- Quieter indoors. The compressor lives in the outdoor unit, so the side you share a room with measures 39–49 dB(A) depending on fan speed.
- Self-installed. The bracket, window lock, sealing cloth and steel safety rope are all in the box, and it plugs into a normal wall socket.
- Year-round on heat models. 3.5 kW of cooling and 3.5 kW of heating cover both summer and the cooler shoulder seasons.
- Efficient. Rated energy class A++ for cooling and A+ for heating.
- Flexible control. Run it from the on-unit panel, the remote, or the SmartHome app for scheduling and voice control.
Important limitations before buying
A few things are worth knowing before you commit:
- The outdoor unit must go outside for heating and cooling. You need a suitable window, sill or terrace — the bracket fits windows that open inwards with a ridge up to 4.5 cm wide and at least 2 cm high.
- It's heavy. The two units together weigh 45.5 kg, and the window frame and wall must be able to support the mounted outdoor unit.
- Not for wet rooms. The manual warns against using it in a bathroom or laundry.
- Heating isn't on every model. If you want heat, confirm the specific model includes it.
- Take it down in storms. The manual says to remove the bracket and outdoor unit during thunderstorms or strong winds.

Modes and everyday use
Once it's set up, you control the PortaSplit from the on-unit panel, the remote, or the SmartHome app. It offers five modes:
- Cool — set a target between 16 and 30 °C and pick your fan speed.
- Heat — warms the room on models that include the function, across the same temperature range.
- Dry — reduces humidity; the manual recommends keeping windows and doors closed for the best result.
- Fan — air circulation without heating or cooling.
- Auto — the unit chooses cooling, heating or fan based on the room and your target temperature.
Energy-conscious extras such as ECO and Sleep modes are built in, and the SmartHome app adds scheduling, voice control and energy reporting if you connect it to your network.

Installation checklist: will it fit your home?
Because the outdoor unit needs to go outside, it's worth confirming a few things before you buy. Each point below comes straight from the manual:
- A window that opens inwards with a ridge up to 4.5 cm wide and at least 2 cm high, so the included bracket fits — or a sill at least 30 cm deep for a terrace setup
- A window frame and wall strong enough to support the bracket and outdoor unit
- At least 25 cm of clearance behind the indoor unit and 50 cm above it for airflow
- A room of at least 4 m², kept well ventilated (the refrigerant is flammable)
- A standard earthed wall socket nearby — the manual says not to use an extension lead

Frequently asked questions
Is the PortaSplit a true split air conditioner?+
Yes. It has a separate indoor unit and outdoor unit connected by a refrigerant hose. For heating and cooling the outdoor unit must be placed outside, typically on the included window bracket, while the indoor unit stays in the room on its wheels.
Do I need a permanent installation or a tradesperson?+
No. The unit ships with a window bracket, window lock, sealing cloth and steel safety rope so you can set it up yourself and plug it into a normal wall socket. A qualified installer is only needed if you want it permanently fixed or the refrigerant lines extended.
Can it heat as well as cool?+
It is rated at 3.5 kW for both cooling and heating, so on models that include the heat function it can be useful well beyond the summer months. The manual notes that not all models include heating, so check the listing before you buy.
How big a room can it handle?+
The manufacturer rates it for rooms up to 42 m² (about 105 m³). That covers most living rooms, bedrooms and home offices. The manual also sets a minimum room area of 4 m² because the refrigerant is flammable.
Is it quiet enough for a bedroom?+
The indoor unit runs between 39 and 49 dB(A) depending on fan speed. The lowest setting is the quietest, and because the compressor sits in the outdoor unit, the side you share a room with stays comparatively soft.
Can I use it in a bathroom or laundry?+
No. The manual specifically warns against operating the air conditioner in a wet room such as a bathroom or laundry, as too much moisture can short the electrical components.
